In addition to creating work in the music and entertainment industries, Judson and Molly also create experimental video art, bridging multimedia footage, alternative ways of recording and radical forms of performance.

Our work has shown in a variety of galleries and countries including:
The London Art Biennale | Czong Institute for Contemporary Art in Korea | Konnector Gallery in Germany | Orange Art Foundation NYC | London Art Collective | The MACRO Project in The Finger Lakes | Pageant NYC

i forgot to tell u

Combining dance and video, ‘i forgot to tell u’ is a meditation on perceived shared memory. While heavily affected footage of one of the artists (Judson) walking through Tokyo plays, an after image of the other artist’s (Molly) movements blur over the edges and interact with all the footage playing around the screen. What does it mean to be lifted out of memory, creating a composite of smell and texture that lives between two people moving through the same space? Something separate and unhinged, more real somehow. The plastic footage and crunched effects mirrors the emotional attachment rather than a true documentation of the moment, blending details into a continuous movement.

as if i became it

Selected for The MACRO Project’s September billboard, ‘as if i became it’ is a processed still from a video recording taken at the Bronx Botanical Garden, using an old digital camera with a blurry quality to the lo-fi footage. The compressed grain and details of the image in-motion felt like an extension of that day’s recording, as if the light could be felt and pulled. The billboard is on view on the way to Ithaca, at 42°23’41.7”N 76°23’36.5”W.

An Echo In Reverse

Blending dance, music, projections and a live video feed, ‘An Echo in Reverse’ is an improvised performance centered around perceived motion and real-time surveillance. It starts with a dancer, building movement over time both in front and behind a transparent screen. Multiple cameras and phones around the room film the performance in real time, including a phone held by the dancer as well as several phones used by audience members. The videos are then projected live on top of the screen and mixed and matched to a live musical score created in conjunction with the dancer's movements. All the cameras are from different generations and have varying quality and lag time, creating the sense of seeing something that hasn’t quite happened or just missing one another. Throughout the arc of the performance, each element is both improvised and reacting in real time to the other ongoing pieces, creating an unexpected outcome in each performance.

The Screen Is A Mirror

Through exploring improvisational performance between a dancer, videographer and evolving technical set recording the movements, ‘The Screen Is A Mirror’ aims to create an interdisciplinary dialogue and use the process of filming to unfold our conceptions of choreography and surveillance. In each of the videos in this series, there is a dancer moving in an improvisational method through a space, traveling through different parts of the set. Following and reacting to the dancer is a primary camera held by the videographer, with the live video feed projected back onto the set to create one of the ‘screens’. This creates a live improvised set, with the technical setup adjusting throughout the performance as the movement evolves.

Series premiered at Czong Institute for Contemporary Art in Seoul, May 2023
